Notes don't waste your life
This book starts off slow and at times in the first ch hard to follow ( for me at lest) but I am really glad we are reading this book because it is really help me to refocus and me some adjustments in my life. The second ch really becomes easies to grasp and a wealth of revelation. I only chose one part of each ch to sum up the whole ch as it pertain to what I pull from each one.
Only one life,
’Twill soon be past;
Only what’s done
for Christ will last.
Ch one
As you all know the above words come from a plaque on a wall in his parents home. I too share the writers desire to not waste my life but maximize it to it's fullest capability. So the first ch the author walks us through his early life as he begin to search out the meaning of have a full and productive life. He shares with us seeds like the one above that was planted in his heart and mind that help shaped his desire to have a mean full life.
Ch two
This were the book really begins to come together for me. Below is a resolution out of the book. This thing really resinated with me because it allows us to have a real focus in life to have a reason to why we do what we do. Not blowing in the wind looking for the next best thing to come along.
Resolution #5: “Resolved, never to lose one moment of time; but improve it the most profitable way I possibly can.”
Resolution #6: “Resolved, to live with all my might, while I do live.”
Resolution #17: “Resolved, that I will live so, as I shall wish I had done when I come to die.”
Resolution #22: “Resolved, to endeavor to obtain for myself as much happiness, in the other world, as I possibly can, with all the power, might, vigor, and vehemence, yea pviolence, I am capable of, or can bring myself to exert, in any way that can be thought of.”

I agree with Lekeith about the first chapter. It started off a little slow. However, I appreciated the overall theme in chapter 1. I don't want to end up coming to the end of my life and having regret or be like the old man who, through tears, said "I've wasted it, I've wasted it."
Chapter 2 is when this book really started to come alive to me. Piper starts to reveal the way to live a meaningful life by glorifying God and pointing to the cross.
He says to Glorify God is not to add more glory to God but glorify more like the word magnify. Because "when you magnify like a telescope, you make something unimaginably great look like it really is. Magnifying God like that is worship. God created us for this: to live our lives in a way that makes him look more like the greatness and the beauty and the infinite worth that he really is."
One of my favorite quotes from chapter 2 is: "God loves us best by giving us the best to enjoy forevermore, namely himself, for he is the best. --God sent Christ to die so that so that we could come home to the all-satisfying Father. That is love."

I also agree that the book started off slow but Chapter 2 presented alot of relevant and exciting points. The author really makes you think about your relationship with God and if you are really putting every effort into pleasing our deserving God.
Insert from ch 2
If we desire that there be no boasting except in the cross, then we must live near the cross—indeed we must live on the cross. This is shocking. But this is what Galatians 6:14 says: “Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Boasting in the cross happens when you are on the cross.
Staying connected to God will allow HIM to always be lifted up. As we decrease God will increase. Looking forward to reading more!

Chapter 3
In my opinion, chapter 3 was very powerful! In this chapter Piper talks about boasting only in the cross. He derives a single passion taken from 1 Corinthians 2:2; I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I think that if we, as Christians make this our sole passion that we will be on our way to living a meaningful life, because our life will embrace knowing Jesus Christ more and more. If we think about it, what could be more important than a relationship with Christ?
My absolute favorite part of this chapter goes like this: “We simply take everything for granted. We think it is ours by right. But the fact is that it is not ours by right. We are doubly undeserving of it, (because), 1) we are creatures, and our creator in not bound or obligated to give us anything. 2) We are sinners and fallen short of His glory and all we deserve from Him is his judgment.
Chapter 4
I really enjoyed chapter 4 also. Piper states that we boast in the cross best when we bear it. To me this means life is not meant to be easy and without trials or struggles, but God is most glorified when we can praise him in spite of our situations. When we can be satisfied with knowing Jesus and still have Joy when life seems to be turning upside down around us is when we are living a meaningful life.

Boasting Only in the Cross,
The Blazing Center of
the Glory of God
The three chapter really goes into a deep thought on boasting only in the cross. This book challenge your thinking on how we try to save our life. Boasting only in the cross make you focus on only what you do for Christ will last. Challenging your thinking on how we try save our life. We must learn hoe to channel in all our energy having a fulfilled life by not wasting her life on things that are temporary but on things that are everlasting

May we try to escape? Thou mayest do in this as it is in thy heart. If it is in thy heart to fly, fly: if it be in thy heart to stand, stand. Any thing but a denial of the truth. He that flies, has warrant to do so; he that stands, has warrant to do so. Yea, the same man may both fly and stand, as the call and working of God with his heart may be. Moses fled, Exodus 2:15; Moses stood, Hebrews 11:27. David fled, 1 Samuel 19, 12; David stood, 1 Samuel 24:8. Jeremiah fled, Jeremiah 37:1112; Jeremiah stood, Jeremiah 38:17. Christ withdrew himself, Luke 9:10; Christ stood, John 18:1-8. Paul fled, 2 Corinthians 11:33; Paul stood, Act 20:22-23. . . .
I love this because there is a fine line between knowing when to stand and knowing when to move. I have never had this explain to well, that we always don't have to stand but then again we don't have to be move by everything ether. Every man should follow the direction of the Holy Ghost as he lead and guides us along our walk with GOD.

Ch 5 Risk is Right
I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish." Esther 4:16
Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The LORD will do what is good in his sight." 2 Samuel 10:12
If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." Daniel 3:17-18
I love the examples that he give in this chapter as well as the overall theme. The writer teaches us that in order to not waste your life we need to take chances we need to step out in faith even if we don’t know how things will turn out. What the above verses teaches us is that we need courage to follow Christ because it will be tested as well as our faith as we walk with GOD. The people here are walking into a situation that the outcome can go either way God could step in and save or allow them to be destroyed. But to them the risk is worth it they have made a decision and place their faith in God will be fine with whatever he chooses to do.
I think it about time the we start taking some risk for Jesus. Don’t you think so?

The Goal Of Life
In chapter 6 the writer talks about our goal in life should be “Gladly making others glad in God”. He point out that he first have to have a heart of forgiveness. He goes on to state that if we don’t have this kind of heart that we want be able to achieve this goal. The theme of this whole chapter is our heart (motives) on why we do what we do. It reminds me of a story in Acts 8 ch of a man how became a believer because of the miracles that the Apostles performed You have neither part nor lot in this matter: for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Acts 8:21 we cannot fool God and our motives have to be according to a clean and just heart. He thought that he could buy the same power they had with money.
GOD IS NOT FOR SALE!!!! Therefore our Heart has to be right.

This book has been awesome! The more I read, the more I become conscious of
the areas in my life that can be "wasted" if not replaced by a Christ exalting
passion. I have listed my favorite parts of chapters 5-7.
Chapter 5
teaches us to Risk our lives for Jesus Christ. We Demolish the idea of "safety"
when we give our ALL to glorifing Christ. This made me think that even though it
could cost all we have (money, family, friends, popularity, and anything else we
hold dear), not only is it worth it, but we were CREATED for it! We were created
to worship God with all we have.
Chapter 6: "Forgiveness is essentially
God's way of removing the great obstacle to our fellowship with him. By
cancelling our sin and paying for it with the death of his own Son, God opens
the way for us to see him and know him and ej=njoy him forever."
Chapter
7: Within the first few pages of chapter 7 Piper asks "Why don't people ask us
about our hope?" He then goes to answer, "We probably look as if we hope in the
same things they do.".... Being a believer, what makes you different? When the
world looks at you do they see someone who has assimilated into itself? Are we
different only sometimes, and blind in other times?
This chapter also talkes
about wasting our life with things like television and other activities that do
not bring glory to Christ. The right question to ask if we want to know if we
are wasting time is "Will this bring Glory to God?"
